How to Choose a Controller Phone Mount: 7 Things to Check

A controller phone mount clamps your phone above your PS5 or Xbox controller so the two become one handheld. It's the piece that makes Remote Play and cloud gaming comfortable for longer than ten minutes. They are not all the same, though. Here are the seven things worth checking before you buy one, whichever brand you go for.

1. Does it fit your controller?

Controllers are different shapes. A mount designed around one controller can sit loose or crooked on another. Check the listing names your exact controller (DualSense, DualSense Edge, Xbox Series X|S, Elite Series 2, DualShock 4) rather than just "PlayStation" or "Xbox". Some mounts use swappable adapters to fit more than one.

2. Does it fit your phone, with the case on?

Look for the maximum phone width in millimeters, not just "fits most phones". Measure your phone with its case: taking the case off every time you want to play gets old quickly. Large phones in thick cases are where cheap clamps fail.

3. What is the grip made of?

The clamp takes all the load. Plastic ratchets and thin springs loosen over time; a metal mechanism holds tension longer. Also check the contact points are padded so they don't mark your phone or controller.

4. Is the weight balanced?

A phone sitting high above the controller acts like a lever on your wrists. A lower, closer mounting point and an adjustable tilt angle make long sessions much more comfortable.

5. Can you still reach the ports and buttons?

Streaming drains batteries, so you'll want to charge the phone (and sometimes the controller) while you play. Check the mount doesn't block the phone's charging port, the controller's USB-C port, or the touchpad and share buttons.

6. How quickly does it go on and off?

If it takes tools or five minutes, you won't bother. The best mounts clip on in under a minute and come off just as fast when you go back to the TV.

7. What's the warranty and returns policy?

Springs and hinges are the parts that wear. A real warranty (not just "30 days") and an easy return tell you the maker expects it to last.

Quick checklist

  • Names your exact controller
  • States a max phone width that covers your phone in its case
  • Metal clamp mechanism, padded contact points
  • Adjustable angle, low center of gravity
  • All ports and buttons reachable
  • Tool-free, fast on and off
  • Multi-year warranty and a simple returns window

How the Game Armour Mobile Mount stacks up

We designed ours around that list: it fits the PS5 DualSense, Xbox Series X|S and Elite Series 2 controllers with the included adapters, extends to phones 110 mm wide with or without a case, uses a geared, spring-tensioned metal mechanism, leaves every port accessible, and sets up in under 30 seconds. It comes with 30-day returns and a 2-year parts warranty, and the design is patent pending.
